Excursions in Val Martello and Stelvio National Park

Schönblick - starting point in the hiking and adventure Eldorado in the upper Martello Valley

Mountain boots on, off you go: You won't need your car for a while. Most hikes, summit and ski tours start directly from our hotel. Did you know that Val Martello used to be called "Schianbliamltol" which translated into English means valley full of beautiful flowers? On a hike or mountain tour in summer, you'll immediately realise why. You can find our hiking tips below:

The Pedertal - a Valley full of energy

The Peder brook meanders in gentle curves through the high Alpine valley. It divides on a plateau and then continues to babble down into the valley. The variety of flowers and the monumental view take your breath away. The Pedertal is our insider tip with a “marmot guarantee“. Start at Schönblick: Passing by the Enzianalm, you reach a crossroads immediately after the stable and follow trail no. 20 into the Pedertal. At the next crossroads on the edge of the forest, bear left. Continue along trail no. 20 up the valley, following the course of the brook. If you want to go further, follow trail no. 33, which leads along the slope past the former Schildhütte hut in the direction ofthe Pederköpfl at 2,585 metres. From there, a descent into the Lyfital valley and down to the Lyfialm, which is open all year round. Trail no. 35 takes you steadily up and down through the forest to the Peder- Stieralm. Back at the crossroads with hiking trail no. 20, you will find your way back to Schönblick.

Vordere Rotspitze: happiness at 3000 metres

The Rotspitze could be said to be our backyard mountain and, in a way, Rotspitze wouldn't exist without Schönblick. Our grandparents' guests built the path up there more than 50 years ago, as well as the cross at the summit. Thousands of metres of altitude. Thousands of emotions. With the Zufallspitze and the Cevedale glacier always in view, you'll take trail no. 37 up to the summit. The last section with its wire rope is a bit treacherous - but all in all quite an easy 3000 metre climb with guaranteed feelings of Gipfelglück - which could be translated as summit happiness. Return via the 37/A, along beautiful glacial lakes and take a break at our neighbours at the Martellerhütte Rif. Martello before coming back for an aperitivo at the Schönblick on our sunny terrace.

A little closer to heaven

The Madritsch-Spitze is one of our favourite 3000m peaks in the Martello Valley. The ascent via the Zufallhütte Nino Corsi then following trail 150 is pleasant and gentle most of the time. Once you reach the Putzental valley on trail no. 41, it gets a little steeper and the ascent to the summit requires all the muscles in your legs and buttocks - but once you reach the top, you are rewarded with an awesome panoramic view of the Ortles-Trio. The mighty Zufallspitzen and Monte Cevedale are always within sight. A little tip on the side: this is an ideal sunrise excursion.

Winter

Winter in Val Martello

In winter, Val Martello is transformed into an enchanting winter wonderland. And we are right in the middle of it! The road is always cleared and hence we are always accessible by car, even in winter. There are no ski slopes or lifts up here - but, regardless, we never get bored.

Ski Tours

Working your way up to go downhill sounds like a lot of effort at first. And it is - but the rewarding feeling at the summit, and even more so when you can make your downhill turns in the snow, is simply beyond description. Ski touring has become a definite trend in recent years and Schönblick is the ideal starting point for your tour. The advantage: the descent takes a little longer ;) You can reach more than ten well-known ski slopes directly from our hotel. If you wish, you can also have breakfast early in the morning and, of course, there's also a packed lunch for sustenance along the way. Ski and boot storage available; wet clothes can be dried in our heating room.

Our tour tips:

- Kalfenwand (3061 m)

- Schildspitze (3461 m)

- Plattenspitze (3422 m)

- Hintere Schöntaufspitze (3325 m) via Madritschjoch (3123 m)

- Eastern Veneziaspitze (3356 m)

Ski tours are not your cup of tea? Then you can rent snowshoes from us and discover the snow-covered upper Martello Valley.

Cross-country skiing and biathlon

Over the years, Val Martello has established itself as a small cross-country skiing and biathlon Mecca hosting national and international biathlon races, such as the IBU Junior Cup. If you want to explore the enchanting winter landscape of Val Martello on cross-country skis, you can hire skis from Hotel Waldheim. There is also a so called "magic carpet" near the biathlon centre - a conveyor belt for toboggans which guarantees fun in the snow even for the little ones.
